    2. Each of you read one of these texts and annotate it to help both you and the other understand it better. But remember not to annotate too much! Don't make it confusing! (TIP: Read it once first, then go back and annotate)
      1. Ask questions in the margins
      2. define difficult words and phrases
      3. note interesting language or ideas
      4. find big deep thoughtful questions-- what are the implications of this?
      5. Make connections-- to other texts, to the genre/topic, to historical events, to pop culture (shows, music, movies, artists), to what you are learning in other classes, etc.
      6. Ask yourself:
If the goal is comprehension, what do you need to annotate for, and what don’t you need to annotate for?
What inline annotations do you want to make? (vocabulary words, interesting language, etc.)
What margin notes do you want to make?
What is obvious? What do I NOT need to annotate?
